Nevada Marijuana Business Plans Required for Cultivation and Production Applications

 

As of today, January 2, 2018, the state of Nevada has opened applications for cultivation licenses and production licenses to both those who hold and those who do not hold current Nevada medical marijuana registration certificates. The application period is from January 2, 2018 through January 16, 2018. The state Department of Taxation is responsible for licensing and regulating marijuana businesses in Nevada.

 

Timeline for Nevada Marijuana Business Licensing Process:

Request for Application Date – November 15, 2017
Opening of 10 Day Window for receipt of applications – January 2, 2018
Deadline for Submission of applicants – January 16,2018
Evaluation period – January 2, 2018 through April 2, 2018
Provisional certificates awarded – Not later than April 2, 2018
Anticipated approximate fully operational deadline – 18 months after the issue date of registration certificates

 

Cultivation License/Application Overview:

A cultivation license is required to cultivate (grow), process, and package marijuana; to have marijuana tested by a testing facility; and to sell marijuana to retail marijuana stores, to marijuana product manufacturing facilities, and to other cultivation facilities, but not to consumers.

The state of Nevada requires you to submit several business/operational plans as part of your application. The following plans are required for the Cultivation application:

  • Documentation concerning the integrated plan of the proposed medical marijuana establishment for the care, quality and safekeeping of medical marijuana from seed to sale, including:
    • Transportation Plan
    • Security Plan
    • Product Safety Plan
  • Evidence that the applicant has a plan to staff and manage the proposed medical marijuana establishment on a daily basis, which must include:
    • Financial Plan
    • Cultivation Plan
    • Staffing Plan
    • Environmental Plan
  • Documentation concerning the adequacy of the size of the proposed medical marijuana establishment to serve the needs of persons, who are authorized to engage in the use of medical marijuana:
    • Suitability of Proposed Facility Plan

 

Production License/Application Overview:

A production license is required to purchase marijuana; manufacture, process, and package marijuana and marijuana products; and sell marijuana and marijuana products to other product manufacturing facilities and to retail marijuana stores, but not to consumers. Marijuana products include things like edibles, ointments, and tinctures.
